Bedlam in the Past

A cascade of aureate sunlight flooded the dilapidated shed, on the verge of believing my father was a lunatic. Dust thickened the air, as I exhaled sharply. I gazed at the vibrant surroundings around me - a myriad of miscellaneous objects peppering the tables, buzzing with adventure. Blueprints lay strewn across the floor, with ideas mankind could only dream of. Incredulously, I shook my head.

I sighed in disappointment, turning towards the door. Abruptly, a cacophony of sounds filled the surroundings. My eyes gazed at the vast silhouette distinctly protruding from the ocean of metal. A multitude of scintillating lights peppered its spherical body. Dust enveloped its body, yet peril lingered in the air. Death had devoured my father, but his spirit called upon me.

Reluctantly, I approached the sphere, examining its moth-eaten exterior. Danger distinctly emanated from it. I demanded my body to cease, yet my fingertips brushed across its coarse surface. Darkness dawned, numbing every sense in my body. Fear overwhelmed me as my consciousness collapsed.

Roaring filled my eardrums. Feebly, I rose from the ground, blinded with pain. Peering through my disoriented eyes, I studied the verdant plateaus stretching around me. Wildlife flourished around me, appearing to be untainted by humans. The orb silently rested beside me, steaming slightly. Footsteps blared in the distance, shaking the bowels of the Earth. Shock paralysed my body, as I gazed at the gargantuan figure jolting towards me: Muscles rippled across its body, a pair of unnerving fangs saturated in blood. I stumbled backwards as the dinosaur lunged towards me.

My body collided with the floor, and a body toppled against me. I opened my eyes, and a familiar face filled my vision. Wrinkles peppered his body, and a beard formed across his face. His eyes were filled with hunger, yet they appeared sharp and alert. Recognition briefly flashed across his face before he pulled me upwards. The anonymous figure jolted into the woods, as I closely trailed behind him.

The dinosaur’s roars amplified, sending a myriad of tremors into the ground. I collided with the figure’s body, crumpling at his feet. Shock lingered in his face, as he gazed at the orb I arrived in, a realisation piercing my heart.

Smoke flooded the air as the orb continued to malfunction. My father inspected it, instantly fixing its gears and wires. The ground shook beneath us, as a contour ominously loomed over me. Baring its razor-sharp teeth, the dinosaur swiped at me. Screaming at myself, I dodged death by an inch. The dinosaur continued to harass me, as my father cried in triumph before struggling to find the switch.

I grabbed my father’s wrist, before slamming my hand against the orb. My body was swept into a sea of black, before colliding onto the floor. The taste of relief was enticing. I peered at my father, ecstatic to regain his adventurous presence beside me again.
